The Lake Waranga Caravan Park is situated on the shores of the Waranga Basin in Rushworth Victoria 165 km north of Melbourne and approximately 45 km south west of Shepparton.
The Waranga Basin is an ideal location for all styles of water activities including water skiing, jet skiing and is a great fishing spot. Severe drought and low basin water levels have motivated the park lessees to make a real difference to the surrounding environment. They realised practical solutions for water conservation were needed and an extensive research project was initiated to implement these solutions. The planned construction of the park’s new guest amenities was an ideal platform for the park lessees to exert their environmental credentials by making water conservation a requirement of the new building. Hopefully, more caravan and holiday parks across the nation follow in Lake Waranga Caravan Park’s footsteps. There are various water-saving devices in place. The goal for the Lake Waranga Caravan Park is to save 1,000,000 litres of water per annum. By using the following water-saving devices, the park will be able to do this:
- Electronic Shower Timer: Each timer will be set with a predetermined time frame for each shower. Audible beeps and count down display will operate throughout each shower, which will give the shower user an updated time remaining for their shower.
- Waterless Urinals: In the men’s toilets in the new building we have elected to install environmentally sustainable waterless urinals. These products have a unique design that allows them to function without the need for water.
- Rainwater Tanks: The new building will have two 5000 gallon tanks that will harvest rainwater from the roof of the new building.
- Water Pumps: To increase water pressure in the new building the park is installing several water pumps, we are also installing a new dedicated water line from the front gate of the park to the new building. This will ensure a constant and workable pressure.
- Washing Machines and Dryers: As part of the new building water-efficient front-loading washing machines and gas dryers will be installed. A retro fit of the existing laundry in the front amenities will also see new front-loading washing machines installed.
