Send Letter to Editor

You Said It! (letters to the editor) contributions

Letters to the editor should be no more than 150 words, signed (if sent by post or fax) and preferably typed. The Road Ahead reserves the right to edit, or refuse to publish any letters. Please note that letters sent to 'You Said It' for possible publication will not receive an individual response and that anonymous letters will not be published. Regardless of how they are submitted, all letters to the editor must include your name and street address (i.e. not just an email address, if sent electronically). No payment is made for ‘letters to the editor’ submissions, however the best letter in each edition stands to win a prize.

Your submission should be addressed to ‘You Said It!’

What's On Events

Submissions for consideration for our ‘What’s On’ events page should be no more than 200 words and should include key event details, including date, location, activities, costs and contact information. Only Queensland events are covered in this section and we can not guarantee that all events submitted will be published. Once published, you indemnify RACQ for any damages or costs that may arise from the publication. We encourage you to submit colour images with your event details. See specifications under ‘Colour images accompanying submissions’. No payment is made for these submissions.

Please send contributions via one of the following methods:

Email: roadahead@racq.com.au

Mail: The Road Ahead
PO Box 4

Fax: (07) 3257 1863

Colour images accompanying submissions
If you have electronic images to accompany your story, please email a selection of low-resolution jpegs in the first instance to the email address listed above, to enable us to select the shots we would like to use if your story is accepted. We will then advise which images we would like as high-resolution (ultimately, we can only use high-resolution colour images). High-resolution electronic images can be submitted in the first instance on CD, or via email after we have advised that a story has been accepted. Alternatively, transparencies or colour prints can be sent by normal mail to the postal address listed above.

Freelance Articles

The Road Ahead buys freelance articles on travel and, to a lesser extent, on motoring-related consumer issues on an 'as needs' basis. As a general rule, submitted travel articles should be 500 words in length (one page in The Road Ahead), destination based and accompanied by a selection of good-quality colour images (see below for details on formats accepted). Depending on the topic/destination covered, on occasions, The Road Ahead may accept stories up to 1000 words. If the photo includes someone other than you, please ensure that you have the consent of the person photographed to allow their image to be used. Articles should be sent via email, as an attachment (preferably in Word, otherwise as a text file), to the address listed below. If email is unavailable to contributors, articles can be sent on CD in Word (or text file format if Word not available), with an accompanying hard copy. First Queensland publication rights are required to rest with RACQ for any article accepted. Payment is based on a rate of $65/100 words, calculated on the likely finished article length (i.e. after editing and placement in the magazine). For example, a one-page Road Ahead travel feature (including photos) would, on average, attract a payment of $325 plus GST. Payment is made on acceptance and will be processed following receipt of a GST-compliant tax invoice. A stamped, self-addressed envelope should be included if you want your material returned. Your photos/transparencies and other material (such as disks) will be returned with a copy of the magazine on publication.

Your submission should be addressed to ‘Freelance articles’.
