Bargara

Category: Drive Travel

When passing through Bundaberg, the peaceful seaside town of Bargara is just a 13 km drive towards the ocean.

Flanked by blue coastal waters and offering a golf course, bowling green, the Woongarra Marine Park for fishing and snorkelling, and a number of dining options, Bargara provides a relaxed setting for a coastal getaway.

As well as being spoiled with Queensland’s golden sandy beaches, Bargara is also a popular nesting spot for turtles. When visiting between November and March, beachgoers can encounter nesting turtles or may even bear witness to the hatching process.

Nature lovers may also enjoy a visit to the nearby Mon Repos Turtle Rookery. The term ‘rookery’ refers a breeding ground for birds and marine animals and Mon Repos Beach is home to the largest concentration of nesting turtles on the mainland of Australia’s east coast. The rookery is also a research and conservation centre that helps to protect this endangered animal. Visiting after dusk during January through to March is the best time to visit to see tiny turtles hatching.
