The High Country of Highfields, encompassing the Crows Nest region, is north of Toowoomba and includes the charming towns of Hampton, Carbarlah, Meringandan and Crows Nest.
The High Country is a strikingly scenic region that offers an enticing mix of attractions. Travelling from Toowoomba, visit an array of antique stores, quaint cafes, historical museums, and arts and crafts suppliers, as you wind past each town. Pick up produce such as Hampton blueberries and local wines. For overnight stays, welcoming bed and breakfasts, cottages and farm stays offer welcoming accommodation to experience true country hospitality. Small motels, old-style country pubs, caravan parks or camp sites are other accommodation options. The Lakes Tourist Drive will take you on a path through the picturesque lakes of the region, including Lake Perseverance and Lake Cressbrook, which are accompanied by many state forests and national parks. Some areas of the lakes will allow fishing, water sport activities, hiking trails and abseiling. Crows Nest is the most northern town of the Highfields and boasts the beautiful Crows Nest Falls situated in the ‘Valley of Diamonds’, which is nestled in Crows Nest National Park. Creeks and streams attract unique wildlife and you may even spot a platypus in the quiet creeks at the coolest times of dusk and dawn.
