Sometimes steering away from the big city during a holiday can provide great opportunities to discover new sights and experiences.
Situated on the banks of the Comet River, the Central Queensland township of Rolleston might be small on the map, but it offers a wide variety of activities and outdoor adventures for travellers to enjoy. Part of the Central Highlands Regional Council, the Rolleston township takes its name from one of its original settlers, Christopher Rolleston.
In addition to its role as a mining and cattle town, Rolleston is also home to one of the world’s most prized sapphire fields. Visitors can try their hand at gem fossicking alongside local community members.
With some of the state’s most precious national parks as neighbours, Rolleston provides visitors with the chance to explore Expedition National Park and Carnarvon National Park (home to the rugged sandstone cliffs of Carnarvon Gorge).
