Australians recycle almost half a billion greeting cards every year.
This saves tens of thousands of trees because the pulp from the cards goes into making recycled cardboard and paper products like cereal boxes and toilet paper.
Recycling your greeting cards is a great idea, but you can also get creative and reuse your cards in a few different ways. Turn old cards into new gift tags fit for any special occasion by cutting them into square or rectangular shapes and punching holes in the corners for string or ribbon.
Cut off the backs of cards, which do not have writing behind the front cover, and use them as postcards. You could also donate used cards to a local kindergarten, childcare centre or school for the kids to use in arts and crafts. Greeting cards made entirely from paper and cardboard also make great mulch and can go straight into a compost bin or even your worm farm.
