Unpackaged

Category: Eco

Between takeaway cups of coffee, lunch from the food court in a plastic container, and a muesli bar at morning tea, the packaging waste from these activities may seem like nothing to you, yet its a major driving force behind the worlds current environmental crisis.

Taking matters into her own hands, Catherine Conway, developed her own boutique grocery store Unpackaged where people could buy products using packaging of their own; customers bring in jars, bottles, bag and boxes to refill with the produce. In this quaint London store you will find all the essentials from loose organic wholefoods such as rice, legumes and flour, as well as loose organic dried fruit, nuts and seeds. Other products luring customers in include the range of environmentally friendly cleaning agents and toiletries, as well as the organic herbs and spices on offer. Since opening in 2007, Unpackaged has received great attention from the world’s eco warriors who wish they had an Unpackaged in their own hometown. A great idea that would serve well in all global cities, hopefully it won’t be long before Catherine brings her concept to Australian stores.

I think this is fantastic. I remember Jack the slasher use to do a similar thing and you could fill up cereal into plastic bags and it go weighed. There should be more shops like this
