On March 7 all Australians are invited to join in the fight against waste, over-consumption and littering.
Clean Up Australia Day is in its 20th year, and last year volunteers picked up two-million pieces of rubbish from our beaches, streets and community areas. Clean Up Australia Day aims to raise awareness about taking responsibility to keep our country clean, and to help conserve our environment.
While people are encouraged to always place rubbish in bins provided in public spaces, unfortunately our oceans, parks and bushland do still manage to be inundated with man-made waste. To assist, you can volunteer at a designated Clean Up site, or you can arrange your own site. Visit the Clean Up Australia Day website to find out more about what contribution you, your family and members of your local community can make. In addition, businesses can get involved with Business Clean Up Day on March 2 and school groups can pencil in a clean up for Schools Clean Up Day March 5.
