Summer festival season is heating up and Queenslanders can celebrate
with the news that Splendour in the Grass is moving north in 2010.By Jenny OReilly
Music event Splendour in The Grass is a winning combination of festival atmosphere and some of the best music talent around. Now, the festival is moving from Byron Bay to ‘Woodfordia’, the site of the Woodford Folk Festival, for 2010.
Woodford Folk Festival’s Director Bill Hauritz said having one of Australia’s premier contemporary music events at Woodfordia would be a privilege. “Splendour is one of the best managed events I have observed, they are responsible, caring and disciplined organisers,’’ Mr Haruitz said. “We can expect the best.”
Woodfordia currently hosts two major annual festivals: The Woodford Folk Festival; and The Dreaming, Australia’s International Indigenous Festival. Splendour in the Grass has grown to a three-day festival for 2010 and runs from July 30 to August 1.
The move from Byron Bay to Woodford, north of Brisbane, for next year’s festival is expected to pump millions of dollars into the local economy as it attracts around 30,000 visitors to the region. It is estimated that over three days Splendour in the Grass could generate at least $13 million in economic benefits to the local region.
Festival organisers initially approached the organisers of Woodford Folk Festival about the prospect of using the Queensland venue, because their site near Byron Bay has not yet obtained approval for use from the New South Wales Government.
Have never been before but all my friends and family have been i was going last year but was pregnant and having a lot of trouble so i gave my ticket to my best friend now that it is moving close to my home i deffinatly going.
