Profiling some of the most moving stories of 2008, the 52nd World Press Photo Exhibition will remind us of pivotal moments in history as well as those less remembered events.
This includes the Global Economic Crisis, the devastating earthquake in China, the aftermath of the cyclone in Burma, Beijing Olympics 2008, Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, and the terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Photos of these events contributed to a total of 96,268 entries submitted to the competition. The jury gave prizes in 10 themed categories to 62 photographers of 27 nationalities.All 196 winners of the 2009 competition can be viewed for free at
