How to boil the perfect egg

Category: Food+Recipe

Boiled eggs are a quick and simple way to boost your protein-intake and can also be a great source of energy.

You can add boiled eggs to salads (they are a delicious addition to Caesar salads), start your day with a boiled egg and multi-grain toast, or simply boil one or two eggs to eat as snacks throughout the day. Most people have their own preferred method of boiling an egg, but here are some other tips to perfect your boiling technique.

First, try to find a three-minute egg timer (from your nearest kitchen shop or supermarket). Place an egg in a small saucepan, with an inch of cold water and cover with the lid. For a soft-yoked egg, boil for three minutes or for four minutes if you plan on adding it to a salad, or if you prefer hard-boiled eggs. It is best to start with eggs at room temperature.

Boiled eggs can rejuvenate you and help to keep you powering through the day. To shell a hard-boiled egg, place the egg in a bowl of icy water to cool it down, then gently tap the eggshell against a hard surface, and peel off the shell. Rinse the egg to remove any excess shell.
