WHEN IS A FAN NOT A FAN? WHEN ITS A DYSON AIR MULTIPLIER. THE NEWEST
TECHNOLOGY FROM INVENTOR JAMES DYSON AND HIS TEAM OF ENGINEERS AND
SCIENTISTS IS BLOWING SHOPPERS AWAY.
The man who gave us the “unstoppable, never-loses-suction” vacuum cleaner has done it again. The Dyson Air Multiplier fan has no blades. Instead it uses patented technology to multiply air 15 times, expelling 450 litres of cool, smooth and uninterrupted air every second. The blades on conventional electric fans literally chop the air, which means the airflow is uneven, causing buffeting. The Dyson Air Multiplier accelerates air through an ‘annular aperture’. This creates a jet of air that passes over an airfoil ramp that channels its direction. Surrounding air is drawn into the airflow amplifying it 15 times (this is called inducement and entrainment). Say goodbye to the low, medium and high settings on your conventional fan, which is only wired to run at just two or three settings. The Dyson Air Multiplier is powered by an energy-efficient brushless motor, so air speed can be precisely adjusted with a dimmer switch. No blades also means there’s no need for a grille; so it’s simple to clean and straying fingers are safe too. And because its motor is at its base, the Dyson Air Multiplier can be tilted with a touch, unlike a conventional top-heavy fan, which needs to be positioned with two hands and can topple easily. The fan is made of tough thermoplastic, which has shock absorbing properties, and is used to make car bumpers, crash helmets and modern golf club heads. Dyson have given Australia precedence in launching the Air Multiplier, ostensibly because we’re early adopters of technology, but really, what better time to try out the new technology than in an Australian summer.

Another FIRST- for ‘Road Ahead’ not just a Motoring Magazine. Thanks for telling us about the Air Multiplier-Australia leads the way- as does The Road Ahead.
