Caring for stainless-steel benches

Category: Home+Garden

Stainless steel is a popular building material in many kitchens thanks to its durability against general wear and tear.

Unlike many other benchtop materials, stainless steel is safe to use bleach on and, with the right finish, can hide marks and scratches.

It is still important to care for your stainless steel, especially when it is used as a food preparation area. Begin by giving the stainless steel a really good scrub with hot, soapy water. Wash this away with a wet cloth and allow to dry before applying a stainless-steel polish. Afterwards, buff the surface dry with a dry clean towel or cloth. If you do not wish to use soapy water you can make a solution out of ¼ of a cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of warm water. Spray this solution onto the bench and wipe it dry with a cloth or paper towel. Instead of using polish, you can also use a tiny bit of olive oil all over the bench.
