Organise your home library

Category: Home+Garden

Your home library can speak volumes about your reading tastes and its easier to feel organised if you arrange your home library into an ordered and simple reference formula.

A good place to start your home-library clean-up is to do a stocktake of your collection. Browse your shelves and remove any books that are no longer relevant to your library. You may be surprised at how your tastes have changed over the years, plus your local charity store will appreciate donations of pre-loved books and updating your shelves will create more space in your home.Remove the remaining books from the shelves and give your library space a thorough wipe-down. If you have the opportunity to store your books in a glass-encased bookshelf, the amount of settled dust will dramatically reduce. Your books can be arranged alphabetically by author’s surname, in height order, categorically, or even coloured-coded to complement your interior aesthetic.

You can also source interesting and unique bookends to liven up your bookshelves, such as the fair-trade range from Oxfam.

  1. Jean Fearnside says:

My bookshelves are never the right size for all the different heights, and if you put them categorically they still end up looking uneven in the shelves. I think they always look untidy no matter what I do to them.
