The first hose began its life in 1672 fighting fires in Amsterdam, but it wasn’t long before more uses were found for it and the garden hose was born.
Back then, hoses were made from linen but today the garden hose is made from layers of rubber or vinyl or a combination of the two. The rubber is flexible causing it to sometimes kink and bend, which is the most common cause of hose damage.
To remove kinks, lay the hose out flat on the driveway in the sun. Try to avoid leaving your hose outside in cold climates as water still inside the hose can expand and burst the hose. An organised hose is the easiest way to prevent any unnecessary wear and tear. Racks that attach to your house or shed are a simple solution, or you can also used hose-reel carts mean that you can take your hose to different locations around the house.
