The benefits of a greenhouse

Category: Home+Garden

A greenhouse, or glasshouse, is a structure purpose built for growing plants.

It commonly uses glass or plastic walls to retain heat and create a warm, humid environment inside. This kind of environment is perfect for gardening, whether professionally or for sheer enjoyment. There are multiple benefits of greenhouses. These include:

  •  Protection for plants. This can be especially important in the unpredictable Australian climate. A greenhouse will provide shelter and act as a shield against heavy rain, sun and strong winds. It will also help to prevent infestation from insects and pests.
  •  Provide the perfect environment. The greenhouse is structured so that it absorbs the sun’s heat providing a warm and humid environment for plants to grow. The greenhouse secures heat and water to maintain these conditions constantly.
  •  Non-seasonal. Greenhouses are able to maintain similar conditions all year round. This means that planting does not have to be seasonal but all species can be planted whatever time of year you choose.
  •  They are multipurpose. Anything can be planted in a greenhouse, whether fruits, vegetables, flowers or herbs. Both indoor and outdoor plants can also be mixed as planting is not done directly into the garden’s soil.
