Welcome rains cause Outback Trial postponement

Category: Motoring

Persistent winter rain in Eastern Australia has led to the postponement of the 2010 Frontier Services Classic Outback Trial for two months – from the planned August 22-28 timeframe until October 10-16.

Event director Philip Bernadou said heavy rainfall over the past few weeks had covered the entire course of the 2200 km trial in Central and Western New South Wales, with Forests NSW, local shires and the property owners advising that many of the roads would be impassable for the next three to four weeks, even if the rain stopped. More rain is also predicted.

Entries will now close on Friday October 1.

As before, the 2010 Frontier Services Classic Outback Trial is set to start and finish in Forbes.

In between, the field of up to 40 entrants in historic rally vehicles built up to 1996 will compete in 25 closed-road timed stages during their six-day loop of major regional centres including Dubbo.

Overall, up to 30 per cent of the total 2200 km covered by the event is expected to be competitive, with participants enjoying more than 187 km of timed competition on one day.
