Queensland’s rivers, lakes and oceans are home to some of the world’s best fish, and there are certain steps you can take to hopefully warrant a successful catch of the day.
Firstly, responsible fishing is the key to snaring a great catch, and the catch and release method helps to keep our waterways stocked for the future. Try to avoid lifting fish out of the water to remove a hook, and use barbless hooks where possible.
Here are some tips to increase your chances of catching a fish.
Tip 1.
Prepare to be patient. The waiting game is a big part of fishing, so allow yourself a decent amount of time to hone your skills.
Tip 2.
If you’re fishing on the beach, try to find a higher vantage point (like rocks or sand dunes) to spot gutters (dark, flat water).
Tip 3.
When fishing in a protected bay, or river mouth, keep an eye out for where the riverbank drop-off, water channels and weed beds are.
Tip 4.
Take a friend. If you have access to an experienced fishing-lover, invite them to join you and divulge some of their secrets.
