While you might not be able to see the germs and your hands might look like they’re clean as a whistle, there can be many nasty germs and bugs lurking on the surface. During the winter flu season, you should keep them as clean as possible to deter the germs from spreading. There are a few things you can do to ensure that your hands are as germ free as possible, not only during flu season, but all year round. Wash them regularly with soap and dry them with paper towel or with an air dryer. Communal hand towels in offices and homes spread germs so try not to use them. Make sure you wash the entire hand –including the backs and between the fingers – and work your way up to the wrists, as this is where many germs can accumulate. Also, there are hand sanitiser products on the market, which can be used to wash your hands while you’re out and don’t have access to a bathroom.
Out of courtesy to your co-workers, be sure wash your hands after every time that you blow your nose, so that you’re not transferring germs to places that other people will be touching. And like your mum would have told you, don’t put your hands near your mouth – this is a great way for promoting the spread of germs.
