Where to catch bass in Queensland

Category: Outdoors

Fortunately for Queenslanders with a passion for bass fishing, the state boasts some of the most plentiful bass populations in the country.

But before embarking on an epic quest to catch your first bass of the year, it’s important to review the dates of the seasons when you are allowed to fish for bass. As a general rule, across the winter months (June 1 to August 31), fisheries management places a ban on bass fishing, to allow bass populations to repopulate.

Southeast Queensland is home to several popular dams that are stocked with bass, including Somerset Dam and Wivenhoe Dam. Anglers searching to catch bass might find it helpful to read over this list of ‘hot spots’ to increase their chances of catching a bass. For those who are new to bass fishing, spinners and poppers are the most popular types of lures to use.

In addition to stocked dams, some anglers opt to stake out good spots along the Brisbane River. More information and tips can be found here.
