Why learn first aid?

Category: Outdoors

Knowledge of first aid in an emergency situation can often mean the difference between life and death.

From treating an animal bite, to reviving someone who has stopped breathing, first aid provides a series of simple techniques that can be used with minimal equipment. Ultimately, the main reason for learning first aid is to save lives, but there are also a couple of other very important reasons to consider.

First aid can often prevent long-term damage because it can teach you to apply techniques to stop bleeding or the spread of poison, for example, or how to move the person out of harm’s way. First aid also involves trying to start the recovery process as soon as possible, which can be done by applying bandages and band-aids or making splints for broken bones. Training in first aid will not only give you important skills, but will also increase your confidence in carrying out these tasks by helping you to not to panic and to remain calm.
