Many world leaders have said that education is the primary solution to eliminating poverty, saving the environment and creating world peace.
It is a difficult equation to get right though when poverty stricken children and their families spend their days trying to just stay alive and find basic necessities. In an attempt to offer a solution, One Laptop per Child (OLPC) was created to give educational opportunities to the world’s poorest children by providing them with a low-cost, low-power, connected laptop that they can use to learn.
The team at OLPC believes that helping kids to learn in this way will connect them not only to each other by also to the world and a brighter future. Through the national outfit of OLPC, the Australian Government, the Commonwealth Bank, Telstra and News Limited are working together to connect 400,000 kids living remotely with purpose-built high-quality XO laptops loaded with educational software.
The aim is to give Indigenous Australians living remotely the same employment and education opportunities that kids who live in major towns and cities have. Click here for more information.
