Starting the day on a good note, in a good mood and with buckets of energy has nothing to do with waking on the left or right side of the bed.

It actually stems from allowing your body to fully rest and rejuvenate overnight, which can help you to live life to the fullest. Waking up with energy can be part of your daily routine, and you can start by following these helpful hints:

  • Don’t watch television or check your email directly before going to sleep. The visual stimulus will get your brain firing, and it will probably take you longer to fall asleep.
  • Get your body moving. If you aim for regular exercise you will hopefully sleep more deeply.
  • Avoid eating large, rich meals close to your bedtime. Your digestive system will struggle to digest overnight.
  • Try to stick to a regular sleep pattern.
  • Practise a simple meditation before lying down in bed. Sitting in an upright position will help your mind not to wander from your practice.

    I always have a book on my bedside table & usually only read a few pages each night before I nod off, moderate daily exercise & going to bed around the same time each night also helps.
